Start with the motor
Prepare a legible motor nameplate, rated voltage and current, power, speed and motor type. A drive should not be selected by power rating alone: output current and load conditions also matter.
Define the process requirements
Identify the driven equipment and whether the process requires speed or torque control. Starting, stopping, load changes and control-system communication belong in the technical assessment.
Record installation conditions
Record ambient temperature, site altitude, panel space and mounting arrangement. Capabilities and operating limits depend on the model and configuration. Check the selected model’s documentation after choosing the product family.
